IBS Luke 5:8 “But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees saying ‘Depart from me for I am a sinful man, O Lord.’ “ This verse just shows how holy Jesus is and how not we are. Simon just saw all of his fishing nets become completely filled with fish and gave the glory instantly to Jesus. He could have said that he knew where to place the net and when to do so and that it was all him. But he didnt he saw it and realized who this man named Jesus was and then realized how unclean he was and that he didnt deserve to be in Jesus’ presence. This should be our mindset. When we go to pray, when we go to read the bible. Whatever it is we should realize how unworthy we are and how great He is and just send praises up to God that He would allow His son to come and be surrounded by sinners and to save them. Most of the time we don’t take things seriously and forget the weight behind the name of Jesus and God. When instead that should put this desire to be more like them in every

IBS 2 Samuel 24:24 “ But the king said to Arauah ‘No, but i will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing,’ So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty sheckles of silver.” I came across this verse while we were doing group devotionals and someone was sharing on it, and it just rang so true. God asks us to give Him ten percent and here we see that David wasnt going to offer things to the Lord without having to pay something. He understood the cost that the Lord paid for us and wouldnt let that go. Where so often when God just asks for ten percent money wise we groan and think that it is such a pain and that we can’t live without it. But if you took out a $10,000 loan and then that person told you you only have to pay them back $1,000 and nothing more. You would be shocked and so excited and will to pay that price. So why dont we have joy when we give God our ten percent, there is nothing we can do to pay

Colossians 3:23 “ Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” This is basically how I can sum up what God has been showing me so far in my time here in Costa Rica. This verse when you first look at it it looks very simple and straightforward, work hard for the Lord and not men, easy right? But when you actually look at it to see what it would mean to truly do all your work unto the Lord that means no complaining, no seeking for recognition, having a servant heart the whole time. And trust me that can be hard. The main thing is that your heart is in the right place and is truly doing the tasks the Lord has set before you with the attitude that such task no matter how small we think can bring honor back to Him. Right now the kids here are on summer break and are all away visiting family. S that means we are no having kids clubs a the moment and instead are doing a lot of spring cleaning around the church. Some days it can be hard to have the right attitude and d

Luke 6:31-35 “ And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. If you love those who love you, what  benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you , what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the sam. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.” When I read this verse I see the parallels of people who are acting like they are following Christ and those who truly are following God, and wanting to show His love to others.  Those who act that they are following Christ could just as easily be following the world. For they will try to put on a front that looks nice and as if they are doing good deeds but then you s

Romans 7:18 “ For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.” Once we realize this truth life gets so much easier. But when we are still stuck in the attitude that through my own power I will do what is right and that I don’t need any help. This just brings so much pain, grief and wasted energy that is not needed.  This can be really evident when someone wrongs you or says something that hits your pride wrong, and you go to defend yourself. When we have Christ in our life we see that we don’t need to defend ourselves because God will defend us. And when we try to take the reins back from Him and we think that it would be better for us to defend ourselves in the midst of the moment it just ends badly and doesn’t give a good representation of whom a follower of Christ is, and should act. When we do these things we end up arguing with the other person and most of the time they don’t care

Job 10:4 “Have you eyes of flesh? Do you see as man sees?” When I read this in my morning devotional I was instantly convicted because I know that I don’t always see things through God’s eyes but instead through the worlds. This got me thinking, how often do we look at things with the perspective of man? Sadly to say that at least for me probably more than I think. When we don’t see things the way the Lord does it is so easy to miss things that the Lord is doing right in front of us, but because we have the wrong perspective we miss God answering a prayer or seeing Him in the small things. Then because we have our eyes so focused on the world and if we are honest with ourselves, our eyes our usually focused on our own self, we miss out on God's answers and grace. We start to doubt and ask God why He won't show Himself to us, when He is we just need to take a step away from the mirror or look up from our phones for more than a second to really see and appreciate what God is
