Romans 7:18 “ For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.”

Once we realize this truth life gets so much easier. But when we are still stuck in the attitude that through my own power I will do what is right and that I don’t need any help. This just brings so much pain, grief and wasted energy that is not needed.  This can be really evident when someone wrongs you or says something that hits your pride wrong, and you go to defend yourself. When we have Christ in our life we see that we don’t need to defend ourselves because God will defend us. And when we try to take the reins back from Him and we think that it would be better for us to defend ourselves in the midst of the moment it just ends badly and doesn’t give a good representation of whom a follower of Christ is, and should act. When we do these things we end up arguing with the other person and most of the time they don’t care what you have to say, they will just argue for the sake of arguing, and the end result is you sinning in the midst of your anger. This is a really hard situation to just let go and give to God because it is so personal, but in the midst it shows how much pride you truly have even if you thought you had none. And once you realize how much pride, jealousy, anger, bitterness is inside of you, you see that because of your flesh there really isn’t anything good. We know what is right, but until we admit that we need God’s help in everything, even in just not speaking, we can’t be an accurate representation of a follower of Christ because our pride gets in the way. So we need to strive to have goodness inside of us which is God and His attributes. This happens when we spend time in His word praying for Him to search our hearts and just surrendering it all to Christ and truly humbling ourselves everyday.
