Luke 6:31-35 “ And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. If you love those who love you, what  benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you , what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the sam. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.”

When I read this verse I see the parallels of people who are acting like they are following Christ and those who truly are following God, and wanting to show His love to others.  Those who act that they are following Christ could just as easily be following the world. For they will try to put on a front that looks nice and as if they are doing good deeds but then you see someone who has never been to church doing the same thing. And when people on the outside see that, that is when they start to question Christianity and if it’s truly life changing. I have had friends in the past that wanted nothing to do with going to church or hearing about Jesus but they would help people and and give to those who could pay them back. On the outside you would think they were followers of Christ because so many of us just do the surface level and don’t truly apply what the word says actively into our lives. Where when we read this verse we see that we should be doing all of these things unto our enemies and those who persecute us. Because that is when we will truly start witnessing to this broken world. People don’t understand it when you are nice and do things for people who are against you, because growing up we learn that it is easier to be nice to those you like and you know you can get something from. This can be hard because that means we have to go outside of our comfort zones and take the risk of people reacting harshly even though what you are doing is innocent but because they aren’t used to kindness when its not deserved, people could use that kindness as something to ridicule us on. But that is where we need to see this as a promise from God and know that even if ridicule comes God will be there with you  and we will be given a reward. We might not see that reward here on earth but we know God keeps His promises even if that means we won’t see it until heaven we can have rest that we are doing the will of the Lord. For me this has been something the Lord has been working on in my heart because so often I would not the the right attitude towards people and just skip on past this verse. But God has been showing me that I truly need to change my attitude and see that this is what His word says and to actually do it with a heart that is rejoicing Him.

Application:

I will pray for a changed heart and attitude daily.
