Isaiah 12:2 “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”   This verse is how we should live our lives, we choose to trust and not be fearful when we have a relationship with Christ. We realize that we need to be humble, otherwise God is not our strength and we don’t trust His ways. When God is our strength we realize how pointless it is to try and get strength from ourselves or other things of the world. And we realize just how painful that way of living is. But when Christ is our strength a sort of weight is lifted up off our shoulders, because we don’t have to worry about doing things on our own, instead we give it right to God. He is our song, we should always be giving praise to God. No matter the circumstances God is praise worthy. He is where our joy and happiness comes from.  Our praises for God should be like that song that you can never get out of your head. But instead of

Psalm 57:4-5 “My soul is in the midst of lions;I lie down amid amid fiery beasts-- the children of  man, whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!” You take this verse and you look at it in a literal sense, where you are surrounded by lions, that would be a very scary place to be and you wouldn’t want to be there. But this is what the world can look like, not with real lions but with people who will tear you to shreds at any moment and are just filled with anger. So if we look at it that way we can’t think the world is fine and safe and that we can ride both lines, living for God and living in the world.  The world is very good at putting on a mask and seeming like its okay to be a part of it but in reality it’s just like a hungry lion waiting for its prey. But we shouldn't live being afraid, just because we live in this world doesn't mean we need to be apart of it we have

Matthew 5:45 “So that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” I never gave this verse much thought, yes I was taught to always be thankful for the little things. But when I took a closer look to this passage it made me even more grateful. For me I always knew the sun would rise and set with everyday, that’s what is has done all of my life so why would it be any different? God doesn’t have to make the sun rise and set, He can make it stand still like in the book of Joshua. But even though we aren’t grateful He still allows this. This is a picture of God's grace because we need the sun for plants to grow and without the sun we could not survive very long, because we would run out of nutritious food. So even though we have done things to not deserve His grace He still provides for us. He also lets us have rain. The rain helps the soil, and again helps plants grow, and gi

Luke 21:14-15  “Settle it therefore in your minds not to meditate beforehand how to answer, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.” When I was reading this section in the gospel of Luke at first verse 15 stood out to me, but then I re-read it and verse fourteen stood out as much or even more than verse fifteen did. Verse fifteen stuck out to me because it is showing that God will provide what we need to say when we need it. There is no need to worry about what we will say or how it will be taken, because God has all of that in His hands. This can be very comforting because it just shows how trustworthy our God is and that when we are in His will there is nothing to be anxious about. So after looking at verse fifteen and that there is nothing to be worrying about I wanted to look at the verse before it to make sure I wasn't missing anything important. Verse fourteen when I took a second look captured my att

Luke 21:1-4 “ Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. And he said, ‘ Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.’” This is a story that I can remember being taught since I was little. The application was always have faith that Christ can provide. But I don’t think I ever truly grasped that concept until I studied it for myself. The rich were putting gifts into the offering, nothing that they couldn’t survive without. But then you look at the widow she put her entire livelihood into the offering. More than likely she had no income coming in to support her, her main source of income had died. She had to be smart with what she spent her money on so that she could continue to live. The rich were more than likely giving out of obligation or wanting to show off, but sh

Luke 20:5-8 “And they discussed it with one another, saying “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say ’Why do you not believe him?’ But if we say, ‘From man,’ all the people will stone us to death, for they are convinced that John was a prophet. So they answered that they did not know where it came from. And Jesus said to them, ‘Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.’” When I read this I see that the people are more afraid of how the people will react, then being truthful to Jesus. They want people to accept them more then they are worried about disappointing God. This can be a hard thing to swallow, but its an important question to ask yourself. “Do I care more about being accepted or about disappointing God?” Jesus already knows the answer to that and He wants you to find that answer out also. He doesn't just deal with the surface level issues and questions. Otherwise He could have just answered there questions and gone on with His day, but instead He answ

Obadiah 1:3-4 “You have been deceived by your own pride because you live in a rock fortress and make your home high in the mountains. ‘ Who can ever reach us way up here?’ you ask boastfully. But even if you soar as high as eales and build your nest among the stars, I will bring you crashing down,” says the Lord. This verse at first glance can seem very harsh, and make you not agree with God’s actions. But the more you look at it you see the beauty that lies behind those words. God here is disciplining you because of your pride, and whenever you get disciplined it’s going to sting. But if God didn’t love you as His own child He wouldn’t see the need to discipline you. God loves us so much that here He is saving us from ourselves, because He knows that if He just lets us keep going on that path we are on it will end in self destruction. So instead of Him wanting to see us go down that dark path He humbles us and brings us back down to street level and makes us see the reality of wh
