Obadiah 1:3-4 “You have been deceived by your own pride because you live in a rock fortress and make your home high in the mountains. ‘ Who can ever reach us way up here?’ you ask boastfully. But even if you soar as high as eales and build your nest among the stars, I will bring you crashing down,” says the Lord.

This verse at first glance can seem very harsh, and make you not agree with God’s actions. But the more you look at it you see the beauty that lies behind those words. God here is disciplining you because of your pride, and whenever you get disciplined it’s going to sting. But if God didn’t love you as His own child He wouldn’t see the need to discipline you. God loves us so much that here He is saving us from ourselves, because He knows that if He just lets us keep going on that path we are on it will end in self destruction. So instead of Him wanting to see us go down that dark path He humbles us and brings us back down to street level and makes us see the reality of where our actions were leading us, and also that when we disobey it is not going to be a fun experience. We can either be mad that God took us off our high horse or we can accept that we were thinking that we knew better than God, and repent. When we repent we see how beautiful God’s action was for us because a perfect God doesn’t have to treat us like His children but He wants to which means He is will to bring discipline when its hard because it will be the best thing for us to grow and truly appreciate Him. It’s the same as when growing up and your parents implement all these rules over you, that in the moment you think it’s pointless but when you grow up you see the benefit of them all and are thankful for it all. So this verse makes me thankful that God cares this much for us that He will tear us down and strip us of our ego.

Application:
I will  be praying for God to show me where I have pride in my life and to strip me off it.
